William Jewell College is in search for a Director of Debate to
lead its nationally-renowned debate program. The Department of
Communication and Theatre invites applications for a Director of
Debate and Instructor or Assistant Professor of Communication. This
is a full-time, renewable, non-tenure-track position beginning
August 2020, with rank depending on qualifications. A Ph.D. in
Communication is preferred, M.A. and previous experience in
coaching and teaching required. Responsibilities: Coordination of
debate program activities, including recruitment, pre-season
preparation, scheduling, promotion and online presence, budget,
coaching, travel, and other duties as assigned. The successful
applicant will be prepared to teach in area of specialty, including
introductory courses in Communication, and courses within the
College Core Curriculum. The teaching load includes six credit
hours per semester along with service as Director of Debate.
Preference will be given to applicants with strong leadership and
communication skills, a desire to work closely with departmental
colleagues, and ability to integrate fully into the life of a
liberal arts college.
Duties and Responsibilities
- The Director of Debate coordinates all debate program
activities, including coaching, pre-season preparation, tournament
scheduling and trip-planning, promotional activities, budget
management, and other duties as assigned.
